Noboru Miyagi is a national elite gymnastics coach who establishes the MIYAGI GYMNASTICS ACADEMY in Auburn in 1984. Miyagi, a three time All-American Team member himself, has been coaching both boys and girls gymnastics for over 35 years.
Miyagi immigrated to the United States from Japan in 1967 to attend California State University at Northridge. As a member of the CSUN men’s gymnastics team, Miyagi was a 3 time winner of the CCAA All Around Gymnastics Championship and won the California State Championship in 1973 and 1975. Miyagi was also the NCAA All Around Champion and was ranked All-American in 1973, 1974, and 1975.
While he attended CSUN, Miyagi coached for various Southern California gymnastics clubs. In 1977-78 he was the assistant coach at the University of Southern California (USC) women’s gymnastics team (elite level).
From 1978 to 1984, Miyagi was the director of Miyagi Institute of Gymnastics, a club that he founded in the Los Angeles area. His coaching achievements included State and National champions from class IV through Elite.

In 1987, MIYAGI GYMNASTICS ACADEMY moved to its new facility off of Bell Rd (just past DeWitt). The new 14,000 square foot gym is equiped with all Olympic level gymnastics equipment. The gym features a full length tumble trampoline, a full 40×40 foot gymnastics floor exercise, a 28×52 foot floating dance floor, a carpet bonded foam floor, and a “pit” that is state-of-the-art for gymnastics!
Miyagi’s goal is to develop gymnasts of all levels to their fullest potential.
